For their custom work, Schastey & Co. designers sketched proposals to submit to patrons or architects. This fire screen for the Hegeler commission includes elaborate carving on its cresting and lower panel, with finials of figural heads, a feature characteristic of Schastey’s oeuvre. Here, they appear to be fanciful interpretations—part animal, part human.
