This print was made for an essay by Heinrich Heine, originally published in 1854, in which the Greek gods were depicted in exile after being superseded by Christianity. The publication was conceived in 1930 or 1931 by a group of book and printing aficionados in Los Angeles but not actually published until 1962, when Grant Dahlstrom published a hand-printed edition of about 100 copies at the Castle Press, Pasadena, CA (information provided by Peter Schneider, February 17, 2023).
