Engraving, part of 'Omnium pene Europae, Asiae, Aphricae atque Americae Gentium Habitus' (Costumes of the various nations of Europe, Asia, Africa and America), a series of prints representing figures from various parts of the world, engraved by Abraham de Bruyn and published by Joos de Bosscher in 1580.

This engraving represents 8 different types of French women, presented in two horizontal rows of four. On the first row, a young princess wears a gown with train made of brocaded fabric with scrolling motifs, a high collar with ruff, and long puff sleeves trimmed with ribbon puffs, carrying a mirror and a pouch hanging from her belt, and wearing a hat with feathers. Next to her is a young noblewoman, wearing a dress with open ruff, long slit sleeves enclosing the long puff sleeves, a striped bodice, and an open overskirt with a border of lozenges and embroidered pearls, over an underskirt with a brocaded pattern of scrolling motifs, also with a border of lozenges with pearls. Her hair is tied up and she holds a fan in her hand. She is followed by an older noblewoman, who wears a gown with ruff, made with a brocaded fabric with scrolling motifs, and with embellished borders, with a veil handing behind her back. Finally, on the right, a mourning noblewoman wears a dress with fide sleeves and long bell sleeves over long puff sleeves, and conical skirt; both the bodice and the skirt are trimmed with inverted heart-shapes down the front, and made with a plain fabric. She holds a feather fan on her right hand, and wears a necklace of three strands.

On the second row, a Parisian bride wears a dress with open ruff, bodice trimmed with pearls and decorated with a jeweled brooch and a pearl belt, with broad shoulders and long, wide sleeves made with a brocaded fabric with scrolling motifs, and an underskirt made with a mathcing fabric. She wears a sumptuous necklace with pearls and matching crown. Next to her is a Parisian woman in fine dress, wit open ruff and long sleeves with padded shoulders, an asymmetrical overskirt stripes over a brocaded underskirt with scrolling motifs, pearl jewelry, and a cap. On the center-right is a mourning woman from Burgundy, wearing matching veil and dress with fur trimmings. Finally, on the right, a Burgundian noblewoman wears a dress with open ruff, fine jewelry, and different brocaded fabrics with varying motifs.
