Along with Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco, Siqueiros was one of the most important artists in the Mexican mural movement and a key political figures. With its bold tonal contrasts, this print is a posthumous representation of Emiliano Zapata (1879–1919), the revolutionary leader of native ancestry and champion of agrarian reform who fought in the Mexican revolution from 1911 to 1917.
