White Bowl

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 453

The thin white body of this bowl simulates the translucency of Chinese porcelain. The simplicity of its incised decoration, which consists only of a scroll motif on the outer walls and a sunburst motif on the inside, recalls contemporary Ding ware from China, which is also white with subtle incised designs.
