Album of prints entitled "Architettura del Mitelli"

Various artists/makers

Not on view

Large vellum-bound album containing a collection of ornament prints. The spine has been inscribed in pen and ink with the title "Archite: / del / Mitelli". While a large part of the prints are by Agostino Mitelli, etchings and engravings by and after other artists have also been inserted into the album. Some are bound directly into the album, while many others have been pasted onto the blank pages in the back. The bound prints all appear to derive from the Roman De' Rossi family print stock. Aside from the pilaster designs by Mitelli, which forms the opening series in the album, the majority of the prints focuses on designs for cartouches, which range in date from ca. 1600 to around the middle of the seventeenth century. In some cases, however, they are represented by later editions of the prints. Several loose prints have been added by the Museum over time, in cases where the comparison was deemed pertinent.
