John Spottiswoode
Portrait of John Spottiswoode, Archbishop of St Andrews, half length within an oval frame made of palms. He is shwon at age 74 with a short beard, skull-cap, ruff and episcopal robes. At upper left and right are two shields with the sitter's age and "Ao 1639" in shield at right, and royal coat of arms below oval. The frontispiece to the subject's "History of the Church of Scotland" (London: 1655).
