Armorial tazza
Italian
Possibly French French
This tazza bears the coats of arms of Louis XII of France (1462–1515; r. 1498–1515) and Anne, duchess of Brittany (1477–1514). It is believed to have been part of a service made to celebrate their marriage, which took place in 1499. Three other pieces from this presumed service are known. French glassmakers were able to emulate Venetian examples of the period; though the tazza form originated in Venice, technical evidence suggests that the Lehman piece was manufactured in France.
