Saint Phar Kissing the Hand of Aline, Queen of Golconda

Jean Honoré Fragonard French

Not on view

In this episode from The Queen of Golconda, Aline is now the wife of the sultan of Golconda, a mythical kingdom of India, although she still dresses in the costume of a milkmaid. On a visit to the colonies, Saint Phar, her first lover, encounters her again and bows deeply, passionately kissing her hand.
