Andrea Schiavone (Andrea Meldola) Italian
After Parmigianino (Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola) Italian

On folio 21 with one other print: 27.78.1(101)
For more information on the Wilton album see entry for 27.78.1(1-428)
This is one of three versions of this subject executed by Schiavone (B. XVI.49.17; XVI.50.18; XVI.50.19), all of them related to Parmigianino's etching of the Entombment (B. XVI.8.5; 27.78.2(291)). This version diverges substantially from its model, most notably in the position of Christ's body. This impression represents an even earlier state than the one illustrated in the The Illustrated Bartsch as the 'first state'. The main difference being the lack of diagonal shading behind the head of the male figure in the upper right corner. Richly printed with abundant plate tone in the lower half. For a later state (second?) see 27.78.2(64) (Mariette Album, folio 22)
