Triumph of Bacchus; Design for the Cover of a Cup
Jacques Androuet Du Cerceau French
Not on view
A triumphal procession with Bacchus seated on a charriot holding a vase and pan behind playing the flute. Du Cerceau, best known for his antique-inspired architectural designs, intended this print as a model for the lid of a decorative cup. The circle at the center was left empty to indicate the location of the finial—the knob used to lift the lid.
