Every One His Hobby, Plate 1st
Two rows of men ride mounts that echo their identities or professions. The Prince Regent is seated on a cask of Punch, the Duke of York on a large green bag of money, a judge on a gibbet, the Duke of Wellington on a cannon, a lawyer on a rolled brief, a tailor on a goose, a parson on a Bible, and a fishmonger on a fish. The imagery of hobby-horses was often used by British satirists to embody the character or pursuits of a subject.
