This print reproduces part of the all'antica grotesque decorations created by Raphael and his workshop in the apartments of Cardinal Bibbiena inside the Vatican palace. The print reproduces the decoration in the same direction as the original and follows the general composition quite closely. Variations are introduced in the details, however, in particular along the top half of the panel. The print has been attributed to both Cornelis Bos and Cornelis Massys, but neither attribution seems fully satisfactory.
