Catching a Giant Serpent with a Net

Antonio Tempesta Italian

Not on view

This etching is an interpretation of a composition designed by Stradanus for a series of hunting scenes published by Cornelis Galle in the 1590s. It shows an army trapping a giant snake with the aid of a net. The print most likely derives from Antonio Tempesta's own series dedicated to animal hunts, published in 1602 by Giovanni Orlandi in Rome.
