Not on view

This depiction of military formations was published in the first edition of Lelio Brancaccio's influential military treatise I carichi militari (Antwerp, 1610). The author, born in Naples, was a soldier who had risen to the rank of sergeant-major in the Spanish army. In the text, he describes the roles of the infantry, artillery, and cavalry and includes a chapter focused largely on the moral behavior of soldiers.[1]
