These drawings document the design for the cradle of the first child of Emperor Napoleon and Empress Marie-Louise, offered to them by the City of Paris in 1811. The designs were made by the painter Pierre Paul Prud’hon, and the gilt-bronze decorations were realized by Pierre-Philippe Thomire and Jean-Baptiste-Claude Odiot. The cradle was a cherished possession of the empress and is now part of the Treasury in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. The current drawings were made for publication and reproduce elaborate presentation drawings done in color by Charles Percier.
