Plate 39, View of the ruins of the Claudian Aqueduct, or Aqua Claudia, with two figures standing under the arch at far left. Below this plate is an unnumbered image titled "Les Arts de Pallas" showing a fragment of a frieze with five female figures. These two images appear between two pages of plates; plate 40 on the following page shows another view of the Aqua Claudia. Facing plate 40 is the first of two pages of text (pages 69 to 70) describing the aqueduct.
